[TheThinkTank] collectives in DC?

Chain Reaction unfortunately closed early last year. Certainly a big loss
for a city that has a swiftly growing bike presence.
But fear not! Cycling in DC will not die. Some people still out here
riding...

Hi Danielle,
Thanks for asking! As for DC, no but YES! None formerly within the
district, but some great options in the area.
*Mount Rainer Bike Co-Op* - the only collectively run shop in the area that
I know about. They have great community presence and are the only mainly
adult focussed non-for-profit shop in the area.
*Phoenix Bikes* - not a collective but a youth development, non-profit
community shop just outside the city in South Arlington (i am staff there
and live in dc, as do many volunteers). We have volunteer shop nights and
are in the process of starting some open shop and adult instruction
sessions, plus bikes, frames, parts, etc. for sale.
*Renaissance Bike Shop* - in Riverdale, MD, north of the city. Not a
collective either, but linked to the Engaged University and doing work with
youth and other great community members.
*Rockville Youth Bike Project* - linked to Bikes for the World, up near
shady grove, in maryland. A great big ole barn where volunteers and students
help process bikes for shipment abroad and learn the ropes.
Great people all! All should be easy to find on google - if not, don't
hesitate to pass on my info to your friend and I'll help get him in touch
with everyone,
Best,
Colin
