Hi all,
Is there someone in Winnipeg who is going to take over the Mexico scholarships? Jim will still organize from Mexico City. If anyone has questions, I can help.
*How it worked last Bike!Bike!* The majority of the funds came from Sacramento ($1,000 USD), AIMS Vancouver ($800 CDN), and Bike Sauce ($2,000 CDN). Bike Sauce ran a separate Bike Build on Friday nights with 80% of the proceeds going to the fund. Bike Sauce will not be able to persuade its membership to support in the same capacity but many Sauciers will donate as individuals. I am not sure what Sacramento or AIMS- Vancouver did to raise funds but I can share their contact information. We could encourage other shops to take the lead and start similar fundraisers. It only takes a few to make a difference but an early start is essential.
The rest of the funds were generated with a GoFundme Campaign and shared on facebook with Bike!Bike! and on multiple Detroit ride pages. Donations came from both BikeBike participants and Detroiters.
Funds were received by Back Alley Bikes as they have charity status and did not have to pay taxes. Funds were than transferred to Jim in Mexico City. Jim created an application process for recipients and distributed the funds.
Let me know if you have any questions or how I can help.
Regards,
Hi Christina,
Thanks for the info and details, that's really helpful! We're having our first Winnipeg "figure things out" meeting on Friday and hopefully we'll be able to designate a person to take the lead on this then.
Do you or anyone else have Jim's contact info?
Thanks! Benita
