A lot of us have experience recycling bicycles and there is probably a
broad reach of talents out there. Here is one idea that I have been
thinking about for a somewhat portable stand. A neighbor has a portable
basketball pole that I have been eying up

The backboard is broken but it is a pole with a heavy base (that I
believe is filled with water for ballast). All that it would take is to
either weld or clamp a couple of support arms or onto the back side.
Then include some tools http://www.dero.com/products/fixit/ attached
cables.

Perhaps I should have made it more explicit that for a number of reasons (e.g. nature of the space where it would be put up) a pre-fab station (like Dero, for which everyone seems to be gushing praise), isn't an option at all. Still hoping that someone out there has done a simple repair station themselves and has advice on it.
