At bikex.org, we never envisioned selling bikes online. But we were already using Square, and they have an e-commerce platform built-in called Weebly.
At first it was just a convenient way to display the bikes we had for sale that were already in our system, and give people a reason to come into the shop to browse or test ride.
But you couldn't turn off the ability to buy the bike online. Before the pandemic, a few people started doing buying them online unseen, which really surprised us. During the pandemic, it certainly took off and so we started to really move in that direction and it has been quite successful. Since Square powers our point of sale, and weebly is built in, it's all been without a monthly fee.
I post a ton of pics and measure each bike carefully and we've surprisingly sold a ton of bikes without a single test ride or inspection. And because there is a lot of demand, we tell many people who want to browse, unspect and test ride a bike, it's not the right time to buy from us (selling bikes isn't our mission but covers our bike donations).
I've got it down to a routine now, and happy to talk to anyone about what I've learned and what works and doesn't. I think decent photography really helps.

We're using Big Cartel for $10 a month, interface is pretty user friendly aside from not having a bulk import option. The backend (with shipping disabled) is pretty solid and good at constantly refreshing. We're eating the %4 cost to use paypal through the site and also using square appt scheduler to handle all booking for pickups and donations. It's all relatively not complicated to get set up and integrate all the things. That said, much agreed the difficulty is keeping it stocked.
Hope this finds you well,

We use Lightspeed as our point of sale technology in the shop. Lightspeed has a free ecommerce platform that we've been using (and like!). It's free unless/until you want to allow people to purchase through the site. Setting up the online payment feature costs more. But for us, we've really just wanted a place for people to browse what we have so they can see if there is anything they like before they book an appointment slot. We still have them come in to test ride the bike, so they pay in person then.

We post both in the local Craisglist and Facebook Buy-Sell groups. The craigslist posting also works as our inventory listing, as we use that link to share what's available. Unfortunately it's empty now, since we've got nothing ready to sell today! We're also just using our website e-commerce site and PayPal for Point of Sale (POS). A bit clumsy but we get all the contact info for customers. Jack Murphy Bike Walk Wichita

Does any one have suggestions for selling bikes online?
Using eBay or another format? An ecommerce platform? Using local pickup.
