We used Americorps (Not Vista) earlier on when I was the only employee too.  Americorps was a great opportunity -- being free or subsidized labor -- however you pay for what you get.  Given the 10 month (1700 hour) contracts, it meant that every January - March I was either interviewing or training, and every October - December I was alone and responsible for their tasks.

It was a necessary point for us, but I am personally glad that we hit the point where we can pay people outright.

Sincerely,

We have an Americorps member here at BRV.  She is a really key member on our team, since she and I are the only employees.  Christine has been working here for two years at this point and helps to develop programming (Women and Trans Night, Bike Recycle Designs, etc).  She also works at the shop coordinating volunteers and working with youth volunteers.  We have had really great experience with the Americorps members we have had over the course of the past 6 years.

Hello All!

Quick question--how many of you have Americorp volunteers or an Americorp program at your organization and what type of programs do the volunteers work on?

Thanks!
