hi guys-

 Kyle, of BICAS (tucson) and formerly of Bike Church Santa Cruz and (briefly) of CylcoCide Bike Rodeo. Don and Jonathan are no doubt right about REMA patches being the best, but, here are some other thoughts.  My experience with patches is thus;

1.depending on the PSI that you are gonna put in them tubes, anything can work good. CylcoCide uses old tubes chopped up, cleaned, and bonded with straight rubber cement. Holds tight til about 65 psi, and then tends to slow leak, thus appropriate to cruisers/MTB commuters/kids bikes, and as near to free as you can get. The only thing that I can never make work is those "glueless" patches. Fuck those things, totally bunk.

2.Method matters a lot more than brand. The two things that I see most patrons doing wrong are; not letting the vulcanizing fliud dry/dry enough and not cleaning their hands first (grease or tri-flo on the tube, even after cleaning and abraiding with sandpaper will make it so nothing sticks).

Ride prone but ride proud,

kyle

hey this is donaldo wrighting in....and any kinds of patch kits that have REMA patches are the best!!  we at Bicas struggled with using other brands and non of them are as easy to use and reliable as REMA!!!  Take it from us kids out here in the desert we know what were talking about!!  Down here in Tucson we are almost out of our "flats" season.  Monsoon season is the time of year when your lucky not to get a flat every other week. So if were not patchin' our own tubes and booting our own tires were helping a good portion of Tucson get it done to!!!!(HEART)   Rubber Side Down Yalll !!!!!
