There are government dollars avail to help former foster youth get started in something like this. AB 12 provides funding to help foster youth tranistion to independence after they age out at age 18.  Could be a great fit for a select few former foster youth.  County social service depatments that oversee foster care would have more information on this.

A couple of things. There seems to be a few of us going to Interbike. It would be great to meet some of you. Can we come up with a place to hook and shoot the breeze.

The other thing, it would be great to have a directory and map of the organizations that are part of this. As I travel around the country I would love to stop by and check things out. Pictures of all the bike shop/kitchens would be cool too. I guess that would mean a website, huh? Just a thought

Peace

Hi, Bike Talk is doing a Safe Route to Schools show from 10-noon pacific time this Saturday. If you think the topic of biking to schools might be of interest, please listen to killradio.org at that time and call in, 213 252-0998.

Thanks,

Nicholas

Hi there,

I work with at-risk youth in a rural northern community and yesterday as I was tossing my sea foam green toilet at the dump I saw at least 6 bikes. I have been looking for something to engage some of my kids and I started thinking about bike-cycling/community shops etc. I feel that this is a really worthwhile project I just have no idea how to go about starting off – so I am looking for support – I am going to check the lists and see what advice is there, then I am going to start networking within my community. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated!
