Here's my quick plug: Litman and the VTPI are tremendous (and totally under-appreciated) assets for the entire movement for better transportation. A data-based approach is crucial for supporting our work, especially when we're trying to influence policy makers, and this dude is providing that data. I saw him speak at the last Towards Carfree Cities conference (World Carfree Network), and he had people's heads spinning. One of the best presentations I've ever seen, on any topic. Not exactly what one might expect from an economist, but he's the real deal, trust me.
