I personally would rather not receive announcements about localized (and not directed towards improving community bike shops as a whole) events. Yes, some of the biketalk things have been specifically about community bike shops but many of them are west-coast based and seem not applicable to running a CBS.
Why can't biketalk save local announcements for their own email list (which anyone can easily sign up for if they are that interested) and only post things here that are relevant to the majority of users on thinktank? What if everyone started posting information about crosswalk improvements and bike lanes in (insert your town here) to thinktank, which is essentially what that last biketalk email was? If someone needs that information, all they need to do is ask and there will be a huge thread of people sharing.
To put it in perspective, our bike project has from time-to-time been signed up without request for other CBS's email lists. Thus we get their "Volunteers needed for Friday" and "Benefit Show this Saturday" emails. While it's great to know what other people are doing, there's only so much we need or want to know.
So now we've been signed up for biketalk's email list (without asking to be), only it happens to be sent through Thinktank.

I disagree--I think that Bike Talk covers many topics of relevance to us, and I am happy to have them here. They have brought on their show folks from many of the organizations represented herein. I have enjoyed their shows--perhaps if you were to listen on Saturdays you might find what they do more relevant. It has been nice for me to be able to hear the voices of many of the people who participate in our ThinkTank. It makes everyone seem more real somehow! Besides--isn't it within the mission of most of our organizations to promote the bicycle culture? This is what this show does.As for having them on a different email list--I am already on so many, that if some can be combined, that suits me just fine! Had they been on a different list, I might not have found them, and I lke the fact that they post the show topics each week. My vote is that they stay!

We would appreciate it if biketalk could maintain their own mailing list and stop posting to TheThinkTank list as none of their posts have had ANY relevance to our organization. (The vast majority of the other posts are relevant to us.)
