Thanks for reaching out.
Santa Barbara has some amazing rides with flat, hills, steep climbs... It's
suitable for all levels of riders.
Once in a while, one can see Lance Amstrong training on Gibraltar Rd, the
Alpe d'Huez of Santa Barbara.
My favorite ride follows the route of the Metric Century (check the
description on the website):
It is BEAUTIFUL and challenging enough for an an aspiring/enthusiastic
cyclist.

Warm-up along the beach, loop down to Carpinteria, up in the foothills
without climbing Gibraltar Rd, go to Goleta and back to the beach.
62 miles with 4000' of climb
For the hardcore, the Full Century is great too but that requires some
training... 100 miles with 9600' of climb
The new Foothill course is a fun ride that I do regularly when I don't have
much time... (34 miles long with 2200' climb)
