Hi all,
I went to Mexico city to help organize the Foro Mundial de la Bicicleta. Some of the zapatista bike collectives that were in TJ were present ( Rueda Libre Chiapas), and they had their spaces, and events. Yvonne from Rol x Playa, one of the Tijuana organizers, was there too ( she has also been in some the Bike!Bike! Everywhere events, and in the language exchange. Resiste Pedal was not there, though, I and other tried contacting them many times including through the bike!bike! everywhere/ bike collectives list and whatsapp.
At this point, I would say the best way forward would be for some, anyone to organize something even if it is regional, like for those local networks that survived to organize something, and try to get the people close by to come together. I am based in Massachusetts now, and volunteering with MassBike, the ED is one of the cofounders of Commonwheels in Allston, and there are other kitchens active close by ( BIke not Bombs, the Lowell connector) he talked about organizing some kind of Bike!Bike! regionally, and I would be down to help for that.
What moves forward something like Bike!BIke! is the collective energy, the links and relationships built by sharing with like minde people, and it should dissapear, it is something precious :)
Hey ya’ll,
Speaking from some experience volunteering with the Bike!Bike!Everywhere! crew for the last couple years, the Mexico City organizers for B!B! don’t seem to be planning actively anymore to make the event happen. I think the pandemic seriously disrupted the bike collective communities there and worldwide but it seems those in Mexico City are still recovering. I truly hope B!B! Mexico City happens one day, but it might be time to find a new host city if B!B! intends to make a comeback anytime soon.
Regaining the momentum to organize B!B! will be tough, and i’ve been at a loss in imagining how it might happen. Usually, B!B! Host cities are choosen at B!B! Itself, so without a B!B!, how can a new host city be picked?
Bike!Bike!Everywhere! (B!B!E!) Is a virtual conference held online and is separate from Bike!Bike! It’s a cool alternative to B!B! but i honestly miss the in-person event so much and hope it can come back.
Aaron
