That was an inside joke. I did parking for the SLC bike collective for 4 seasons (the first season was only for half of it though) of the farmer's market, basically ran the farmer's market parking for 2 of those seasons, and have had a few days when it was just me for 2 1/2 hours which was frustrating because I had not had breakfast or coffee (I am not a pleasant person when I have not had my coffee, okay less pleasant than I usually am). Of course, people took pity on me and brought me coffee. Needless to say, there was no one around to watch the bikes when I had to deal with the fact that I had just drank 3 cups of coffee. Plus every saturday from June to October is taken. Overall, though, it was a good experience. Saw an increase in people riding to the market from year to year. Last year we almost doubled our record on the first day (125 to 247). Needless to day, that was a bit overwhelming and I was glad that our totals never reached that again (we still had alot, just not 247). It was good to see people coming out by bike, and more people seeing that as a viable form of transportation. But I am glad to have my saturdays back.
But I no longer live in SLC so I do not have to park the bikes. Plus, I am now living in Ferrara, Italy, and everyone rides bicycles. I do not have to promote bike culture, because it is all around me, and there really are no events where we would have bike parking.

We have and will continue to do so. Big race in Wilmington last year, we parked about 200 bikes...It was a bit of a mess (most of these bikes parked in a half hour immediately following a bike parade) but our first time and plenty to be learned from the experience.
It get's your name out, people are very appreciative for not having to lock up, some even throw a few bucks in the donation jar. We stapled a piece of paper to each bike with information about our organization and got lots of people emailing after the event.
We had a small "town square" type deal cordoned off and bikes were parked with kickstands or leaned against trees/walls. Bikes were tagged with a door hang type thing, the person parking got a small piece of paper with a matching number that rips off the bottom (will post a picture to the wiki when i can). I recommend against using this system in the future because the door hangs are not very solidly attached and fall off fairly easily.
There was no waiver form filled out (no time at all to fill out and lines of 30-50 people waiting to park even without the waiver).
I believe we had 10 of us working the event and it got very hectic. Ideally there would be 1-2 people just tagging bikes and 3-5 people collecting the bikes at the entrance and parking them. For slower volumes you can probably get away with less. We did have a problem with people wandering in (friends or otherwise) to park or get their bike on their own. I'd suggest volunteers wear identifying shirts (different than shirts you may sell to the general public) to make sure people are where they should be.
We also provided bike safety checks for people that were interested.

Ronald, what are the reasons you don't do bike parking? curious mainly.

Only at events, from what I can tell. (Bike related, of course) Like at the pedal pushers last year!
