Not-for-profit Society of Alberta. I think the term up here is always 'not-for-profit', I'm not sure where this society thing comes into play in different provinces however. All members have equal decision-making power, however responsibility if things don't get done falls to the board. We are 100% volunteer run. Members of the board are chosen each year at the AGM and submitted to the government of Alberta. .godwin (of the Bike Root)

501(c)(3) non-profit where the by-laws re-allocate the powers of the "board" to a different group or people... Our board is comprised of elected collective members, and is mainly a board in name. All decision-making falls to the coordinating collective.

There is more than one way to do everything so how is your community bike organization structured? Please respond!
For example: Traditional 501(c)(3) non-profit with a board and executive director? 501(c)(3) non-profit where the by-laws re-allocate the powers of the "board" to a different group or people? 501(c)(3) on the books, but that is as far as it goes?For-profit?Worker owned?Consensus based?Flying under the radar?Other? Obviously the traditional non-profit route is a common one, but I would like to document other create ways that organizations can be structured on the wiki.
