eBay is the most reliable barometer of the market. Because comparables are going to be difficult (search completed auctions-must have eBay account), try to find a similar vintage handmade (ciocc, tomasini, masi?) and component groupo and add a small premium for gold. I remember those coming in chrome, so I'd bet that it is gold tinted chrome. We try to be fair but generous in valuation of donated items.

She's adamant that it is plated with 24k gold - looks like it too (although we're speculating on gold coloured chrome). It's in good condition.
