Hey Dennis,

We run a volunteer orientation 2x per month. Volunteers learn about our mission/history. They get a tour and we talk about the various programs and how they might participate.

I send a survey to all volunteers for each quarter asking people to sign up for regular shifts. I then use their answers to populate this spreadsheet. I give all of the volunteers permissions to COMMENT on cells to "sign up" for shifts on their own. I send all volunteers a regular volunteer newsletter that includes a link to the spreadsheet.

I let them know that it is very helpful if they sign up for a regular shift and if they sign up in advance, however, it is still awesome if they drop in for volunteering. I have family in Melbourne and hope to visit your setup someday!
