Here’s curriculum for the 4-part mechanics series that Bikes Together in Denver uses these days.
It’s relatively basic and meant for all skill levels but we find people experience it as “intermediate” and is a very good overview of all the "systems" of the bike and how they function. These agendas attempt to include our learnings about accessible and welcoming teaching practices, too. Please use it and credit Bikes Together where you can.

Class 1 - Intros, Anatomy & Fix A Flat
Class 2 - Brakes & Cables
Class 3 - Shifting & Chains
Class 4 - Bearing Systems & Wheel Truing

Enjoy,
Mac

Hi Nikki,

The Community Cycles Youth Earn-a-Bike curriculum, posted in 2012, (but written in probably 2008?) is still up and might have some useful structure:

Full disclosure: I helped draft it and might have posted it myself, but have since moved away from Boulder and am no longer with Community Cycles.

They still do awesome work, but their programming and curriculum may have changed since then.

Enjoy!

Hello all,

At Yellow Bike Project we are offering beginner and intermediate adult classes in bike mechanics. We'd like to have lesson plans for all our courses so prospective teachers can use them to organize their thoughts. Right now we have them for all our beginner classes, but need more for the intermediate courses and the guy who teaches them right now is a genius but doesn't want to write down his lesson plans because he says they'll end up being 50 pages long (and we believe it!).

Do any of you have pdfs of lesson plans you could send us to work off for ours? Right now we need plans for:

  • headsets
  • hubs
  • cranks and bottom brackets
  • brakes systems
  • shifting systems
  • wheel building
If you wouldn't mind sending any materials you have my way, I'd be eternally grateful!

Thank you,
Nikki Meyer
