Greetings from Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg in South Central Pa. Sorry have not contributed lately – but we have been busy. After using abandoned buildings for over a decade, we bought and paid (no debt now) a 9000 sq. ft. warehouse in the core of our city. Plus we have helped start 5 other non profit shops in a 90 mile radius.
We are all volunteer and trying to expand our listed hours, but key holders can unlock anytime to serve the community.
Entry level bikes are free to all, you just need a lock for adult bikes. Repairs are free, we serve a lot of unescorted kids. Most half way house residents get bikes to go to work. In the winter, schools send at risk students to learn and be mentored. We ship hundreds of bikes overseas.
Our city’s bike share went belly up 2 years ago, but restarted under another organization.
Our pro biking mayor lost the election, so we have lots of work to do (way to many walkers and bikers have been killed lately).
Our best advertisement is word of mouth and our continuity of doing it for over 20 years.
And google map says it all – we tell people bring up google map and say Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg and it pops everything they need to know. Even shows the neat mural.
