For bicycle donations, we´ve done online publicizing and media outreach (try to get a story in the local news or local radio about your project) but no posters to my knowledge.  After a while, word of mouth gets around and we hardly advertise that aspect of the cooperative--just have a page on the website telling people <i>how</i> to donate.  <br>
