Having a $50 tag on a particular bike signifies to our volunteer staff that the bike qualifies to be given away at no charge (as part of our "Community Bikes" program where we partner with the local food bank and other social organizations).  So essentially that number has meaning to our staff.  How we actually settled on the $50 was based in what we feel these bikes are valued at in terms of hours of work and any parts that go into them.  Our organization gives away approximately 50 bikes per year so at any given time we'll have maybe a 1/2 dozen Community Bikes on hand.  Also in stock will be a one or two dozen bikes ranging in price from $100 up.
