Hi All
W e have had our BikeMobile, a mobile bike shop on wheels, for a few years. It is a 24 foot step van ( the same size and type as a fedex truck) we received a grant and donations for the truck and build out. We operate on sliding scale basis and do both full price and free services fairly well. We go to parks and community centers all summer long and provide free repair for youth. and then do corporate contracts and events for pay. contact me at deb@bikeworks.org if you want more into, pics, specs etc.

Rick,
I'm the Youth Educator at the Boise Bicycle Project and we have been running mobile repair for about a year now. We use a Surly Bill trailer as our base and are on our second rendition of how we carry supplies. As far as locations served we focus on community centers, after school programs, and apartment complexes in high need areas. Currently we have a custom built box for the trailer that fits the footprint exactly. Inside the custom box we fit cables, housing, brake pads, ferrules, chains, grease, chain lube, took kits, tubes, patch kids and stands (I probably missed some things too). We focus on kids bike repairs so most of our repairs are flats and brake issues. We emphasize that we are able to do basic repairs and are not a fully stocked shop, so in some cases folks are referred to our brick and mortar.
To pull the trailer, which weighs a ridiculous amount so I'm not going to speculate, we have a surly Ogre with an electric assist. Before we had the custom built box I was hauling it around without an assist using my old Fisher commuter bike. The box helps to protect from the elements as we sometimes travel in rainy, wet conditions but it does add a lot of weight. I'll attach some pictures of our current set up and of our old if I can find pictures from then. Hope this is a start to what you're looking for.

Does any group out there have a mobile workshop? Or have experience and/or suggestions on the size, set-up for a good mobile workshop? We're pursuing the idea of making one and would love to hear from others about their experience with this method of meeting the needs in the community and if there are any ideal models.
(I've looked to see if there are past posts on this subject but the search engine doesn't seem to be working right now.)
