I've left orgs that abandoned email lists for slack.

Discord I've tried
And found flooded
for a yearly international con
(Not bike) and not archived
so a big waste of spoons/
time, while on limited schedule, imnsho.
Admined my own "server" put a lot of effort and left it.
Now I don't use it at all.
Lack of open source
proprietary and odd admin
personalities / demeaning mostly and I was out.

While I'm next gen for many things, I guess Luddite
suits me best, send something
to me then I have certain rights. Flora/rorums back to yahoogroups,
 then Google groups
then groups.io
All things I don't have archives
of years of efforts, some I admined.

Alysia! Your words don't have to be among the most important ever

relevant! Just chiming in means something. At the very least it lets
others know you and your project are out there, that there are others.

In therms of communication methods,  really I'd love any kind that
archives the chat in a way that could be portable; i.e., if the existing
host goes down, the entirety can be re-published elsewhere.

I've never experimented with Discord, I wonder if it can do that.

One of my old favorite software projects eventually migrated the
developer community away from Launchpad (what Ubuntu originally
originally used for tracking its development) to Github, because Github
did a lot of what they needed better, but also just because culturally
it's where people had chosen for that kind of work. As long as we don't
lose the archival ability, I don't see a big problem with updating where
we connect.
