I'm impressed.  Usually by the time I get to ten or so, the valve stem's only held on by two little threads of rubber...

Speaking of "10 other patches", whenever i'm giving a demonstration of how to fix a tube, at some point during the demo i usually like to ask the group "What's the maximum number of patches that can go on an inner tube?" and let them hem and haw and shout out numbers for a while before explaining that "If it holds air, it's good. There's no maximum."

Andrew and all,

I have done this before usually in some kind of pinch or on a ride and
need to fix a large cut or puncture.  the most important is to sand
both pieces thoroughly over the section to be glued with the
vulcanization fluid.  It has definitely gotten me to the next town or
back to the car when mountain riding before (but I usually replace
these tubes after getting out)  they may be fine but at that point
they usually have about 10 other patches on them in my case and i just
take it as an indication to get anew tube.  I'm sure i have ridden a
month or more on a tire like this though.
