Awesome, the stay cozy winter cycling program looks incredibly helpful! I'm inspired.

We are doing a Stay Cozy Winter Cycling program (now in its 3rd season). We are collecting donations of studded tires, balaclavas, barmitts, etc and outfit 15 participants bike and bodies with everything they need to bike through winter. It is for folks who have never cycled through an Iowa winter before. You can see our IG @bikelibrarian for our list of things we are collecting and if you scroll to last winter photos of the participants from 2021. We had 30 people apply in just a 4 day period. We have Stay Cozy Mentors (5) to help and answer questions. We have one initial 3-hr meeting with the participants in which they get to pick from all the cold weather clothes and we put all the fenders/studs/etc on for them (this is the only time we ever do work for folks) because getting set up for winter can be a lengthy process.

Love it!  Also, I recommend putting out the ask for lighting and locking systems.  These are the two most requested items by our unhoused patrons.

Hello all,

Is anyone doing anything to build bicycle rider solidarity this winter? I'm compiling ideas for future use.

This year in Greensboro we're doing a winter clothes/gear drive. Putting bins in the local bike shops and asking cyclists to redistribute their extras to the "GREATER GOOD" of all local cyclists. We'll then redistribute the goods at the soup kitchens, homeless camps, and job staffing locations where some of the utilitarian cyclists converge.
