Heads up; the ride north from the border to Winnipeg along Hwy 59 is kinda meh and the last time I did it along Hwy 59 (11 years ago now...) the road was pretty crappy with no shoulder.  Hwy 216 might be better but I haven't ever rode it south of Grunthal.  That said the ride from Minneapolis to Thief river falls is fantastic with lots of beautiful paved rail trails.

I'll try to gather more intel on an ideal route in the coming weeks.
