Hello Think Tankers! Front Street Community Bike Works in Coos Bay, Oregon (USA) remains up and pedalling and always lurking in the background of this list serv that we appreciate so much. We are very small (<30,000 person community) and relatively young (4 years). We live in one of these rural communities with very little cycling infrastructure. Still, we have gotten amazing support from community members.
Thank you for the reference to the other list servs, Alejandro. The first item of interest I found was the cargo bike report from London. We are in the midst of a push to get cargo bikes working in our community. Right now there is a brewery (Seven Devils) that uses a hand-crafted sidecar cargo bike for local keg delivery. We hope to complete fabrication of another front-load cargo bike soon and find other businesses that will use our service. We would love to hear of any other experience with start-up cargo bike delivery business from this list.

Chiming in from London Cycle Link/Squeaky Wheel Bike Co-op in London, Ontario! We are well too! We moved from a dingy basement space to a brand new store-front shop in the fall. Looking forward to our first season being visible and having natural light.
Our education program started almost two years ago (working with grade 5-6 and high school students for now). I just joined the YA Hub Facebook group that someone recommended - thanks!

Raleigh Community Kickstand still here. With no physical location, we exist in pop ups and through our Adoptabike program, where members repair donated bikes at their own home at their own pace. Our repair business has picked back up post covid and a recent grant from the solid waste helped enable us to place almost 300 bikes with people in need in Raleigh last year.

With the hyper speed of internet trends, email communication has seemingly taken a back seat in regards to organizing. Not to say it doesn't have a place, but that there are more conducive methods to communicate now, versus 20 years ago or whatever. I mentioned some alternative communication outlets to the Bike Collective admins a little while ago, and was not shutdown, but there were concerns. The concern was in the spirit of decentralization, and to keep from relying on 'cloud' based services. Slack, Discord, MS Team, etc are all non-mission supporting solutions to the lack of communication in the network. I completely understand the angles, and they're right. Using AWS is not a 'collective solution' but I think there are a lot of us still in this 'network' that could all benefit from some refresh in the way we're all communicating with each other.
Personally, I would LOVE to have the ear of some of you Co-op directors/managers/volunteers on a platform designed for quick replies and short form discussion. I'm sure some of you feel similarly. There are a slew of self hosted solutions, but what would be sacrificing/gaining from using these?

Hey all Andrew from Troy Bike Rescue here. Good to see some collective names popping up on this thread from BikeBikes of yesteryear. TBR is still going. I think going strong would be an overstatement. We are bare bones at the board level but have 2 unicorn staffpeople who hold it down. Biggest change is that we now have a low rent summer-only retail operation in the gentrifying downtown area of our small city that is able to generate revenue to support our 'uptown' shop space financially. Covid seems to have kinda killed what was a raucus safe space pretty open youth program by forcing us to be way more orderly about attendance which is apparently way less attractive to kids who would have swamped our space pre 2020 on youth nights... despite the poppin wheelie scene. Its too complex to do justice here but things feel different. Our town is demoraphically shifting and in my humple opinion the pandemic has had far greater impact on movement building than weve yet come to grips with. But the show goes on in Troy! (And the albany and Schenectady bike rescues are still active as well) Personally, i am now part of a worker owned collective of arborists so a lot of my energy goes there. We transitioned from a sole proprietorship in 2020 (coincidentally) also. Shout-out to any tree-loving and/or tree-climbing bike heads.

We are very small (<30,000 person community) and relatively young (4 years). We live in one of these rural communities with very little cycling infrastructure. Thank you for the reference to the other list servs, Alejandro. The first item of interest I found was the cargo bike report from London. We are in the midst of a push to get cargo bikes working in our community. Right now there is a brewery (Seven Devils) that uses a hand-crafted sidecar cargo bike for local keg delivery. We hope to complete fabrication of another front-load cargo bike soon and find other businesses that will use our service. We would love to hear of any other experience with start-up cargo bike delivery business from this list.

Raleigh Community Kickstand still here. With no physical location, we exist in pop ups and through our Adoptabike program, where members repair donated bikes at their own home at their own pace. Our repair business has picked back up post covid and a recent grant from the solid waste helped enable us to place almost 300 bikes with people in need in Raleigh last year.

I would be down to explore a discord (though I don't really know how to use them), and I am a big fan of substack, because it truly allows to have informed discussions in a format that is easier to use than a email listserv.

Finally the french list rayons ( which is managed by L'Heureux Cyclage, the french network of bike kitchens of which I am a boardmember) holds the history of the emergence of radical bikespaces in France - I suspect that this listserv also holds the history of the emergence of community bikespaces in northamerica, which is a pretty cool thing to have - as well as the troubled relationship it has with the big brother - la Féderation des Usagers de la Bicyclette (FUB) which is akin to the League of American Byciclists - except much bigger and much better funded. I would be down to explore a discord (though I don't really know how to use them), and I am a big fan of substack, because it truly allows to have informed discussions in a format that is easier to use than a email listserv.

Popping a quick message in here from Kickstand Community Bikes Society working on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish People: Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, and Musqueam Nations otherwise known as "Vancouver BC".
Our little shop is doing well! We're open for a total of 4 DIY nights a week including our WTQ (Women Trans and Queer only) access night which is always jammed packed, and one day on the weekend. We have a core group of around 40 Volunteers, 1 paid FT Program Coordinator and a very active board of directors. We started our first bike matching program through a partnership with Rainbow Refugee this year that will help see newcomers coming to Canada, fitted with bikes, locks, lights and helmets at no cost!

Thank you for the reference to the other list servs, Alejandro. The first item of interest I found was the cargo bike report from London. We are in the midst of a push to get cargo bikes working in our community. Right now there is a brewery (Seven Devils) that uses a hand-crafted sidecar cargo bike for local keg delivery. We hope to complete fabrication of another front-load cargo bike soon and find other businesses that will use our service. We would love to hear of any other experience with start-up cargo bike delivery business from this list.

Raleigh Community Kickstand still here. With no physical location, we exist in pop ups and through our Adoptabike program, where members repair donated bikes at their own home at their own pace. Our repair business has picked back up post covid and a recent grant from the solid waste helped enable us to place almost 300 bikes with people in need in Raleigh last year.
