The idea I am proposing is regional, self administered, self funded and self actualized programs. I do not want to wait for government or private bureaucracy to sanction or fund the real value of our cycling activities. A Promise Bikes is actually a commitment made by a bicycle rider to use a bicycle as the primary transportation device in their life. There are several ways participants can enroll in a promise bike program.
- To pledge to use a bicycle with in a specific geographical area.
- To pledge to use a bicycle and pubic transportation for all transportation.
- Agree to log or document miles ridden.
- Professional cyclist IE. messengers and racers.
- Documented group rides, critical mass like rides where people use bicycles recreationally and in doing so are choosing to ride instead of drive for and evening.
i use critical mass as an example because it is more well known but i really have midnight ridazz in mind. http://www.midnightridazz.com/ is a social phenomena started in Los Angales in 2003 Passing out serialized spoke cards and then riding twenty or thirty miles can add up quickly. Jim

Is a website you should check out with something along the lines of promise bikes. Though I don't believe companies/people are buying carbon credits, it seems like a good way to keep track of the miles/credits more closely.
