Looking for suggestions for Made in USA bike lights
Hi all,
We have a federal grant to support our bike safety gear outreach, BUT, they only allow you to purchase items that are made in America (which is laudable, but also surprisingly difficult). Does anyone know of any manufacturers?
Thanks!!

Hello Mary-Catherine,
There is one that I know of and I actually have used their products.
They are Light & Motion
http://www.lightandmotion.com/the-perfect-light/ of California. The
lights that I have are rechargeable and have amber side lighting for
additional protection.

Hi Mary-Catherine,
It may be worthwhile to take a trip to your local 3D print shop in Burlington (http://www.blu-bin.com/) to explore what they could manufacture. Chances are that Local Motion will still have to purchase LED bulbs or flashlights with LED bulbs that are manufactured by subsidiaries in other countries, as is usually the case with the awesome LEDs that Cree, Inc. (Durham, NC) designs and manufacturers.

Thank you all for your help! I'll contact these companies to see if they give dealer discounts--does anyone know of any manufacturers who sell relatively inexpensive lights? (in the $10 range?)

A "dealer discount", yes. We have those with a couple of companies, and it's because we buy so many items a year that it makes sense. Sometimes we get wholesale discounts, depending on the quantity. Niteize is pretty good with that, for example, BUT, they're not made in the USA.

Two ideas come to mind. Possibly you could find an acceptable design on the net and make your own lights; or contract locally with an NPO workshop of some type to make them. Perhaps engineering students or an electronics school or a maker space.
