Bike Winterizing Resources
Hi folks,
I'm trying to put together a riding in winter workshop at the Bike Library and was wondering if anyone knew of any resources I could draw on. Has anyone has success with this sort of thing in the past? Any thoughts on what sort of stuff should be covered? We're in Iowa, so I was planning on focusing on studded tires, fenders, cleaning and lubing regularly, and dressing for the weather. Any other ideas on stuff to cover?
Thanks Sam, Iowa City Bike Library www.bikelibrary.org
Some of us here in New York state like to lose our gears in winter to preserve our moving parts. There are lots of ways to convert, obviously, and that may be of interest to a few folks. Will you teach people how to make studded tires? How about getting people to buy a winter rat from your inventory of used bikes??? I'm sure you've thought of that.

i can also upload a copy via dropbox if that won't work.
feel free to copy any or all of that for use in your class or in your shop.

Hi Sam, We have run winter cycling workshops for several years and they are pretty popular.
We hit on the topics you mentioned and also give a little info on pertinent issues to biking in Boulder (e.g., the street or path at X location is always super icy during February or biking the path is better when it's snowy, icy, etc b/c it gets cleaned first, visibility is especially bad at X location) tips that help people ride safer/easier during weather. We also use our twitter or FB accounts to give riding updates for bad weather days. You may want to talk about hauling cargo, kids, pets, whatever. For someone who rides all the time it may not be any different, but for someone starting off or who rides less frequently, it's likely to be an issue.

use of a snorkel when wearing glasses stops the fogging when face is fully covered and no ice from around your face. Vented out the side On Nov 14, 2013 1:43 PM, "Samuel" samuelchristianjensen@gmail.com wrote:
