Winnipeg has many many independent not-for profit community bike shops. (at least 7 but I've lost count) which have opened in the last 10 years Many have different operating and funding models. They are all independent but one of these shops (the wrench) has as part of it's mandate to support the other community shops in various ways like doing supplier orders, re-distributing bikes and parts, communicating, and doing events which involve everyone. As a long term volunteer at the first one to open (the bike dump), I believe the biggest impact has been in our volunteer pool, which has decreased considerably.

I'm curious to hear from those that have experience with second shops, both those affiliated with an existing shop and those that were set up and/or stand independently.

Are there any pitfalls or benefits (for either shop) we can expect in donation impacts, volunteer activation, community engagement, or fundraising?
