The Boise Bicycle Project seeks team mechanics to refurbish bicycles, complete bicycle repair and offer bicycle education to our patrons. Team mechanics work with the operations manager and lead mechanic to reach impact goals in making SAFE, RELIABLE, SERVICEABLE, AFFORDABLE and FUN bicycles available to the community in need.
At this time, we are seeking mechanics with 2+ years experience in a professional bicycle shop and/or a professional certification like a diploma from United Bicycle Institute or similar.
Job Responsibilities
Refurbish donated bicycles (Build Safe, Reliable, Serviceable, Affordable and Fun Bicycles) - 75% of time in role.
Have strong mechanical and diagnostic skills centered around working on bicycles of all makes and conditions.
Refurbish donated bicycles in accordance with Boise Bicycle Project standards.
Perform bicycle safety checks.
Diagnose mechanical issues.
DIY Repair and Shop User Experience 25%
Work with patrons and members on their projects in the DIY shop. Your primary focus is to educate customers to empower them to complete their own projects.
Maintain a positive empowering and educational shop experience for staff, volunteers, and members.
Job Skills and Requirements:
You have a passion for teamwork, a black belt in communication, and an arsenal of interpersonal skills.
You enjoy working with people from all walks of life, all backgrounds, and all ability levels.
You’ve been paid to wrench on a wide variety of bicycles for 2+ years.
You’ve used the phrase “Steel is Real” and Rigid steel bikes will always have a soft spot in your heart.
You’ve spent a significant time volunteering with nonprofits or working on community projects.
You love systems and organization, but embrace evolution and flexibility.
Full time (30+ hours/week), Part time (16 - 29 hours/week), and Seasonal positions are available.
Medical benefits available for full-time positions.
Starting hourly wage: $12 to $14.50/hour pending experience.
