Wondering who on the list sends regular emails to their volunteers or staff, in the vein of "Come help us this weekend with....."?
I'm working on tuning up the system we use for this (right now it's just a Google Group) and am interested in seeing how others handle this.
Eventually, I'd love to be added to all of your lists, so that I can see how everyone else is writing about similar activities, and different approaches to getting help with stuff. If this is something I can do myself (subscribe from your website, i mean), please post a link to your website, and I'll add myself.
To clarify, I'm interested specifically in the calls for help, not news announcement after-the-fact type emails.
If anyone's interested in being put on our list, please let me know, and I'll add you.
Hope the incoming summer is treating you all well!
Thanks!
josh.
We use a mailman mailing list... well three mailman mailing lists.
One for staff and volunteers. One for everyone that wants to discuss all things bicycle and co-op related. One for major announcements and newsletters that goes to everyone that could ever want to get an announcement or newsletter from the co-op.
That seems to be working out ok as far as I can tell. The staff list is great for notifying people of problems. The general list is great to discuss anything that comes up. The announcement list is great for getting the word out and pushing requests for volunteers and whatnot. :-)

We use a mailman mailing list... well three mailman mailing lists.
we also do this, except it's:
- one open discussion list for the core collective, with 19 subscribers,
restricted subscription to active members or, at the very least, people who have been.
- one open discussion list for all volunteers, with 47 subscribers. you
get added on when you take a volunteer orientation.
- one announcements-about-the-shop-only list that anyone can join, with
242 subscribers. at most two emails a month go out on this, usually just one.
http://lists.bike-dump.ca is the server in question.
works pretty well.
macho
Bike Farm has 2 lists both hosted by google
- a general volunteer mailing list that's open for anyone to join
- an announcement-only list for the general public
At our last meeting we voted to create a third list for general chatter to keep our volunteer list manageable for folks who don't check email that often.
I'm experimenting with using http://swaggle.mobi to contact people to cover shifts and to send reminders about meetings because some of our volunteers to read email.
