lending book library of bike books in your shop?
Hey Everyone,
I hope the slow traffic on the list of late is a factor of everyone getting some good back-end planning time.
In the past few years, we've collected a decent stack of bicycle repair and other type of bike books (things like Lance Armstrong's book, or local mountain bike trail guidebooks, etc). We'd like to do something productive with these, and it occurred to me that we could lend them out to members. Does anyone else have something similar?
What do you all do with the books that are donated?
Thanks. Hope you're warm out there!
josh.
We encourage our volunteers, students and clients to browse the books in our library but don’t let them out the door. The few times we’ve found ourselves with a few copies of one book, we’ve given them to the local public library.
We don’t see too many book donations.

We used to have a bunch of books, but were a little too loose in letting folks borrow them. Now we don't have so many books...Just make sure you keep track of who borrowed what!

we have a bookshelf with books that are donated and ones that we buy. we especially like to find old cycling guides from the 70s. they're hilarious!
we use a library card system (remember those??) it's just a card in an envelope that's pasted to the inside of the back cove.r the person's info goes on the card when they check the book out and the card goes into an index card holder. then when they return it the card goes back in the pocket. voila.
we also encourage people to grab a book and sit on our couch while they wait for a stand on busy days.
certain books are not available for check out because they are special/irreplaceable.
so far i think it's been mostly collective members who have checked books out, which is still pretty sweet.
