I'm looking for a liability release form that we can modify for a variety of activities (Earn-a-Bike, Open Shop, Adult Learn-to-Ride classes, community rides......) that is written in plain English--as simple as possible.

Bike Farm's Reads:
I, and my heirs, in consideration of my participation in Bike Farm Inc., hereby release Bike Farm Inc., its officers, employees and agents, and any other people officially connected with this event, from any and all liability for damage to or loss of personal property, sickness or injury from whatever source, legal entanglements, imprisonment, death, or loss of money, which might occur while participating in this event. Specifically, I release said persons from any liability or responsibility for injury while working on my bike and other accidents relating to riding this bicycle. I am aware of the risks of participation, which include, but are not limited to, the possibility of sprained muscles and ligaments, broken bones and fatigue. I hereby state that I am in sufficient physical condition to accept a rigorous level of physical activity. I understand that participation in this program is strictly voluntary and I freely chose to participate. I understand that Bike Farm does not provide medical coverage for me. I verify that I will be responsible for any medical costs I incur as a result of my participation.
Not sure if it would stand up in court, but it's not a bad conversation piece. It reminds people as they come into the shop that they are responsible for their own bike.

I have read that in the USA, if there is any ambiguity in a contract, it goes against the writer and in favor of the signee. I believe this is why contacts in the USA are so often packed full of legalese. Bicrowave has a legalese waiver somewhere in the archives.
