Bikerowave uses the larger surly trailer. It's been really great. You have to be careful when mounting the trailer on to a bike that you have the arm that connects to the bike correctly adjusted and level. Also that the adjustment bolts are on pretty damn tight. we've only had problems when switching between bikes. damage was done to the hitch mounts (the cartridge bearings on them) but they were a standard size and the mounts are servicable. It helps to make something to keep stuff out of the wheel well too. We do weekly outreach with it and have hauled scrap metal, stacked 6 donated bikes on it, oh and we helped a friend move, lots of furnature such as couches have been hauled on it.

We do mobile workshops using bike trailers. We haul two ez-up canopies, two folding tables, three big tool boxes (two with drawers), a paper file box, a kitty litter tub with lubes and solvents, three or four folding repair stands, a truing stand, two pumps, a sandwich board sign, banner, and three 18 gal tubs full of stuff . This requires two medium Bikes At Work trailers. If you want to haul bikes, too, you'll need to make do with not much stuff and two trailers or three trailers. Keep in mind each trailer needs a person to pull it... maybe not so hard to come by in Minneapolis during the summer.
I have not used the Surly trailers. The hitch system does appear stronger than the Bikes At Work one. However, I like that the Bikes At Work trailers are mostly aluminum as opposed to the Surly's chromoly; the BAW seems to have more tie down spots, and the side rails on the BAW seem helpful for keeping stuff on board.
Here's a short video of me and some jerk pulling the two trailers. Forgive the Queen: http://vimeo.com/62093021

I've used both trailers and they're both great! Even with a discount you're probably gonna pay more for the Surly. We have 3 Bikes At Work trailers at Community Cycles that we use for tabling, Rolling Bike Clinics and special events. Also CC members can borrow the trailers for free.
Ride On!

Has anyone used either of the Surly trailers? We are thinking about purchasing the Bill trailer to haul a "mobile shop" as well as several complete bicycles. We would also consider a Bikes at Work Trailer but we can't get a discount from them.
Any thoughts or stories please share!
Thanks,
Andrew
