Hi all,
We are a new bicycle outreach and just acquired a new space! The space we've been given is one oversized garage bay with shelves on two sides, plywood wall on the third side and obviously the garage door on the last side. There are also 2x4 exposed rafters. I would love to hear and even see some of your creative design ideas so that we can fully maximize this space! Many thanks in advance.

Are you going to be storing bikes in there, and if so how many? That will be a major factor in planning a space that size.

You can hang wheels from the ceiling and get them down with a hook on a stick. On Jun 7, 2015 12:19 PM, "Andrew Shooner" ashooner@gmail.com wrote:

Uline bins are great. You can get dividers to store small hardware in them, and they come in different sizes/colors. Might be a good way to maximize use of the shelves.
Sounds like its already part of your plan, but keeping as much as possible on wheels or portable is a good idea too. That would help prevent gridlock if/when that floorspace gets overcrowded and needs to be reorganized.
FWIW, I remember seeing a presentation at BikeBike where someone described flattening bikes by loosening stems and turning handlebars 90 degrees, then pulling off the pedals. It looked like a great way to really stack a lot of bikes together.

Hello Fellow Bikers,
Bicycles are a difficult storage item. We have a rented space so we didn't want to fasten anything to the walls or ceiling. We found a handy rack at Harbor Freight http://www.harborfreight.com/Mobile-Bike-Storage-61231.html of all places. This bike storage rack has casters on it to allow easy movement. It holds about 4 to 6 bikes in a vertical position per rack.
