Anyone got a child protection policy that your organisation uses that they can share? Ulick
We're not doing this yet, but we plan on creating a policy that any employee or volunteer that works with children exclusively (thus far, children have always used the space with teachers from their school or with their parents) will get a background check. We have an agency here called the Ithaca Child Development Council that is what the city uses for these kinds of checks for people working in education.
Our plan is to keep the results confidential and destroy them once reviewed, and obviously to discharge anyone with problematic backgrounds (acts of harassment, physical or sexual abuse) or prohibit them from roles with any such responsibility. Part of our mission is to engage with members of the community in the reentry process, in other words coming from prison, so completely excluding people with a history of violence from participation would contradict our current mission.
