Following up with Bike Donors
Collectives, At Community Cycles when someone donates a bike we have them fill out a tax deductible donation receipt. This is a carbon copy form where the donor gets one copy and we get the other. We then take that info an input into our database. We've done this for about 9 months now and have quite a few Bike_Donor contacts.
So far we haven't contacted these donors but I've been thinking of doing a direct mail campaign to these people. My question is, have other collectives done this kind of direct mail? Or more broadly how are you following up with people who donate bikes and parts to you?
Peace
Rich, more broadly,
We don't follow up at all. Maybe, maybe..I send a thank you email afterwards and sometimes they even get added to our mailing list. We do write down names and serial numbers of donated bikes but I've found that donors are not particularly interested in being contacted again. They've got the bikes out of basement/garage/backyard/wherever, end of story.
Most of our donations come from elderly folks who don't ride anymore or empty-nesters whose kids have moved on and left the 2-wheels behind.
I imagine a "look what we did with your donation yearly mailer" type thing with happy kids working on bikes would be great PR but wouldn't expect to get any more donations. What do you hope to acheive by contacting them, post-donation?
