Ironically, I have recently agreed to get the BICAS 'outreach materials' in proper order and post some of them on the BCN Wiki. That would certainly include the bilingual manual. Sorry that I've been flaking on it for the past month. If anyone has specific/pressing interest, BICAS has a grant that funds us to distribute (photocopy and mail) said 'outreach materials'. For a list of what those can include, email me off list. For what it's worth, I think that a comp of a lot of the little bike zines/manuals out there might be more in order than a complete set of manuals (Plan Bers wanna bite this?; it seems like y'all make most of those beautiful little publications). It seems to me that the information that isn't in these is easy enough to find at the intersection of 'Anybody's Bike Book' and the Barnett's manuals. Other than that, all bike knowledge is a) experiential, b) esoteric, or c) highly specific.
On the other hand, if we are gonna make a manual, I really, really want to help. -kyle

Sorry to hijack the thread Rachael but is the BICAS manual available online someplace? In english or spanish...we're looking at the Bikes Not Bombs manual and some good books to develop our mechanics guide and need as much help as we can get.
sorry, sorry, sorry...but I've just had a 10:50 at night need to go to bed thought...as bike collectives go, we generally work on the crappiest bikes and can usually "make anything work". is there an opportunity to publish a repair manual available to the general public? something like "fix any bike or die trying". included would be such topics as "home-made drop bolts" , "build your dream bike out of trash on the street" and "my cat could fix this with a hammer, screwdriver and adjustable wrench (though he should probably use the proper tools)".
lump this in with a non-profit distrubution company and a bike collectives classifieds and we've got quite the trifecta of good intentions.
still it's an opportunity that's ripe for the taking, look on the shelves of borders, books-a-million, barnes and noble and you get stale stuff about 10 speed brifters and headset presses or creating (buying) the ultimate time trial bike, not that bike technology should remain in past ages of rod brakes, wooden rims and one piece cranks but...where is the cheeky humor of "Anybody's Bike Book"? although i did see that BNB had the assistance of Rick Morall's down-to-earth illustrations...
regardless, I'll see what Thunderhead has to offer in terms of Espanol and report back.

We just got the news that a community bike shop is in the works in a

Thought I'd ask the kind folks on this list for a round up of
resources en
español to send over to the shop organizers. We've already got the
BICAS
manual (has some Spanish translations), which is my favorite repair
manual
in general. Is there a way to filter the Wiki to search only for
things in
a particular language? Or can there be a section for multilingual resources?
Thanks!
