Hey,
Does anyone have a volunteer application they'd be willing to share? Pedals2People is finally seeing a lot of interest from possible volunteers, and we feel like we should have a more formal process for new folks. Before, it was all friends-of-friends showing up, but now we're actually growing (yay!) and meeting many new people. If there's a helpful application out there, please send it my way!
Thanks, Liza

Hi there my name is Rafael, with the Bike Co-op in Fort Collins, CO we have this on-line thingy in our website and it works awesome ! we used to do paper ones too but this is so much more manageable and trackable.... just very available and handy !
So far the only down side is occasional spam from robots filling them out and submitting every once in a while;( Viagra anyone ? ) our mighty webmaster is working on some solution to this such as that box with the characters you're supposed to re-type or whatever, since only the human eye can do that ( or so they say, who knows, really )
Anyhoos, just click on the link at the bottom of this e-mail and go to " volunteers ", hope it helps some.
Best of luck with your growing Bike project.
Greetings from the Rocky Mountains !

We also use an online registration form - our site is built with drupal and the form module was super easy to figure out (for a non web-developer).
so far the spambots have been thwarted by reCaptcha http://recaptcha.net/(box with crazy characters), which is free, can be inserted easily into the form, and helps digitize old texts at the same time.
here's the link if you want to see what questions, etc. we ask - http://www.phoenixbikes.org/en/volunteer/register

Here's our Volunteer Contact Sheet as text (crappily fomatted) and attached (crappily formatted by yours truly).
It's short and simple, formalizes the process a little bit and ensures we have a phone number and/or email for all volunteers (this was a problem for a bit).
Also, with the 2 end questions, we collect some information about opening a future night and what our volunteers are interested in seeing happen in the shop.

If UBP opened more hours, what day of the week and time would be your preference?
What would you like to see happen at UBP this year (use back of paper if necessary)?

At Community Cycles we run our site on Joomla!. One of the ad ons you can get for Joomla! called RSForm Pro makes it super easy to create and share web forms.
Here is what our form looks like http://communitycycles.org/get-involved/volunteer/volunteer-form.html
If your site is running Joomla! and RSForm Pro we can easily share and tweak it to your organizations needs.
When the potential volunteer fills it out a couple of us get an email with the details.
If you'd like to use/share this let me know and I'll hook you up.
Thanks Rich

These are great--thanks!
Makes me think we should have one posted on our website as well as available at the shop.

Here;s ours. We've tried to disersify it so we can really get a sense of who can do what since wrenching is only one thing we do to make the shop happen. Also, on our site, mobobicyclecoop.org on the volunteer page. We're not as advanced at joomla---this survey/ website was made with word press, which is reallly easy. After we get this forms, our volunteer coordinator uploads them onto a google spreadsheet that all the committees can access. Good luck!
