Does your program do Earn-a-Bike?
There might be a way to get some free locks, lights, fenders and other goodies for EAB programs if we can pull together a list of at least 100 EAB programs.
If you know of a program, or you are part of a program, please list it in Column "L" of this spreadsheet.

OMIGOD. I love that sheet! One day about 6 months ago I spent a bit
of time scouring the web generating a spreadsheet about different co-

Kelly,
Thanks for the kind words. This spreadsheet has been over a year in the making, with over 100 people contributing. Blows my mind to be part of something so positive and active with so many other like minded people.
Do you still have the one you created? If you do, and you're interested, please let me know off list and I'll add any non-redundant info you collected.
It's getting to be big enough that I'm starting to wonder where to take it to next.
Any ideas?
Does anyone use this for other than contributing your own programs and ideas? Have any of you used it to connect with other shops that are doing similar work to your own?
I'd love to hear stories about how people are using this spreadsheet in your work. This may help guide the direction and the dialogue about an umbrella (big "O") Organization, or at least some (small "o") organization to help us communicate and "work on making the big wheel better, instead of reinventing a bunch of small ones."

I think there should be an international umbrella organization with national sub-orgs. Maybe folks can throw out some names.... and then we can all proceed from there, maybe we should incorporate something at the next Bike!Bike! conference.

Until we get a list of 100 youth EAB programs, there is no way to get the goodies. Or rather, only at that point can we begin that conversation.
At Interbike (the place that most co-ops neglect to send people) I spoke with a supplier of lights, locks, fenders, etc.,... and they shared the fact that they want to redistribute all the refurbished products (with fully warranty) specifically to at least 100 youth EAB programs. So please help me fill in that spreadsheet.

if an EAB program doesn't discriminate on the basis of age, does that qualify as a youth earn a bike program?

I would need to ask. Again, we shouldn't waste their time asking if we can't come up with at least 100 programs in the first place.
It could be possible that they want to focus solely on youth, should that be the case your organization would need to decide if you participate or not.
If that is the case, again IF, since we don't know for sure yet... I personally can appreciate the the all for one and one for all sentiment. In which case I might recommend viewing this donation as a "match" whereas you scored equipment for half of your EAB program, but you still need to score donations for the other half. (Assuming the youth/adult ratio is ~50/50.) Diversification in funding and in-kind donations is never a bad idea anyway. Given that this would be refurbished goods, there is an assumed limit to what they can provide. So you might have to determine a way to "discriminate" who gets what anyway if there isn't enough to go around.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Morrison Executive Director Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective 2312 S. West Temple Salt Lake City, UT 84115 w: 801-328-2453 c: 801-688-0183 f: 801-466-3856 www.slcbikecollective.org

i just did a very rough count (there's alot of duplicate entries. through the course of building this juggernaut of a spreadsheet, several lists have been combined. no real effort to do any data cleanup has happened on any real level, to my knowledge. if anyone's interested, by all means get in touch.) and found about 40 projects that have some kind of youth EAB connection.
There's a lot of projects listed on the spreadsheet who aren't active on this list. Perhaps it would be good for someone (or someoneS) to reach out to some of the shops listed with not a lot of info, and try to glean some info such as "Do you have a YEAB program?" but also "Are you interested in perhaps joining forces for some potential free locks, etc...?"
Would take some work, to be sure, but how much is all that free stuff worth? There's enough people here that if we divvied up the work, and several people took one or two calls to make,it wouldn't be that bad.
What do you think? Worth the effort?

Until we get a list of 100 youth EAB programs, there is no way to get the goodies. Or rather, only at that point can we begin that conversation.
At Interbike (the place that most co-ops neglect to send people) I spoke with a supplier of lights, locks, fenders, etc.,... and they shared the fact that they want to redistribute all the refurbished products (with fully warranty) specifically to at least 100 youth EAB programs. So please help me fill in that spreadsheet.

Sincerely,

There might be a way to get some free locks, lights, fenders and other goodies for EAB programs if we can pull together a list of at least 100 EAB programs.
If you know of a program, or you are part of a program, please list it in Column "L" of this spreadsheet.
