at the Community Bicycle Network in Toronto Canada we have the Wenches with Wrenches program. it is technically separate from CBN but uses the space and tools and then donates a portion of the workshops income to the CBN. its a 4 week course on intro to bike maintenance including bike fit, brakes, flat fix and adjusting gears. there are 2 senior classes that u can register for separately that are ball bearings & wheel truing. its been completely volunteer run including volunteer bike mechanics, keeping the cost low ($25-40 or so) and involving lots of women, keeping participants coming back to be volunteers etc. that www.communitybicyclenetwork.org/wenches
at Bike Pirates (www.bikepirates.com) also in toronto we have started a Women & Trans only day which runs for four hours on sundays every week. we keep the whole day for women & trans activities to avoid overlap and awkwardness. this has been going on since oct or nov? we were inspired by bike bike to finally go ahead and do it but people have been wanting it for a while. there's been a great reponse so far and support from allies
