Cycle Transitions, a small do-it-yourself bike shop in Cobourg, Ontario has been in existence for a year now and we're happy to say that it's been a great success (25+ volunteers, 80+ members, a busy shop, high school students doing community service hours, and ~$7000 income from sales, memberships and donations!) We feel we're ready to take another step in our development - a real cash system including cash box and point of sale software. We'd like to know what other shops are using and how you integrate this with your accounting. Please let us know what's working for you.
thanks! Rick Nonnekes manager, Cycle Transitions
Bikerowave uses merchant OS. Or whatever they will be called by their new owners. It works good.

Recycle-A-Bicycle just switched to Merchant Warehouse. It was recently bought by Lite Speed, so mot sure how this will affect the system. We like it now. Karen On Aug 16, 2013 12:35 PM, "Rick Nonnekes" rnonnekes@gmail.com wrote:

How did you get it for free? LightSpeed has told me they might be able to give a discount, but not free. (And at $80/month for 1 register and 3 volunteers, I doubt even a steep discount would work for us.) MerchantWarehouse also only serves US customers.
We've been looking into using Square Register's POS system; doesn't seem as fully-featured as MerchantOS/LightSpeed, but aside from initial capital costs (iPad, holder, and optional cash drawer) and the transaction fees, it's free! (We've mostly just been holding out for a free/cheap iPad.)

I can't recall the name of the old software we used but it was old and no longer updated but free. The bike kitchen in san francisco has made its own web based pos set up that it offers for free.

Are you looking for something Web based? Is inventory important to you?
There are a number of open source pos solutions that you can run on your own hardware (you can turn an old desktop into a working server). If this is something you're into, contact me, as I can help you get things set up. On Aug 16, 2013 1:35 PM, "Rick Nonnekes" rnonnekes@gmail.com wrote:
