Learning Spanish in the shop
Does anyone have any good resources for learning Spanish? Specifically ones that might be good for learning mechanical terms and language, for use in our shop?
I'm ashamed to admit I've made it this far with barely passing abilities in Spanish speaking. I'd personally love to make my interactions in the shop more open and welcoming to folks who aren't as proficient in English, and we're working as a shop to move in that direction.
Do any of you know of any good bike mechanic books written in Spanish? I'm thinking that may help as well.
Any resources or things you've found helpful in teaching the staff bikespeak in another language?
Thanks!
Hi all,
Brian from the Community Cycling Center here. We are currently in the process of translating our programs catalog into Spanish, and while I was researching for the first draft I came across this Spanish-language site on bike maintenance http://www.unionbike.net/mantenimientobici.htm. This isn't for folks with no proficiency in Spanish, but it's got some great photos to provide context for the language, and also has a glossary of important terms. You also might want to look at Sheldon Brown's page, which also has a glossary.
Best,
I know that Suzanne Hogen from Kansas City, 816 Bike Collective, has a great list that has the spanish terms for bottom bracket and the like. I don't know if anyone from that shop is on this list. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: veganboyjosh@gmail.com Date: Fri, May 15, 2009 at 2:18 PM Subject: [TheThinkTank] Learning Spanish in the shop To: The Think Tank thethinktank@bikecollectives.org

That's so awesome, Doug. Thanks for posting it.
Anyone who's interested in learning some Spanish names for parts or tools or things in the shop should definitely check that out.
