we are looking to (re)build an outdoor tool station. are there any good example of this? with pictures? this is for during shop hours (not necessarily all the time), so it would be great if tools could be easily removed and then put back... but secure.

Something more secure http://www.dero.com/public-bike-repair.html, then?

i think we want to kind of create something like this: http://www.dero.com/products/tool-kit/
but on our own.... aircraft cable and crimps and a way to lock and unlock it from the front of our building.
i guess i am looking more more specs on cable size and crimp styles.... Angelo's Lexco lead was a good one, but the options are a bit overwhelming.

Yes the Dero product is similar to what I have seen. If I were going to design one, it would be like this. You indicated semi- portability. I would use a heavy base, such as a truck rim and an upright member set in concrete. Attach a pair of wheels from a hand truck/dolly to an axle welded to the back side so that it could tipped and pulled into the shop. Weld a member at 90 degrees (parallel to the ground) at the top of the upright member. Now you have a gallows shape. On the end of this second member, weld a 3rd member to form a tee. Put in hardware so that one can suspend a bike from the "tee" member. Attach selected basic essential tools to lengths of chain or aircraft cable. Fabricate and weld a tool rack that the tools are attached to and stored in. Weld the rack to the upright member. As far as air supply, if the upright is of a large diameter, it could be hermetically constructed to serve as an air tank. A heavy tube could be fabricated into a pump and welded to the base. That is my design vision. A little scrapyard and thrift store shopping could bring this down to a low cost. On Monday, April 7, 2014 4:05 PM, breathingplanet . breathingplanet@gmail.com wrote:

Andrew the commercial units I have seen on line have a set of essential tools attached to the work stand with aircraft cable. I am sure that Dakota could weld the cable to the tools. Lexco or maybe some company closer could make up single loop cable to measure and Dakota could do the rest. Lexco specializes in making security cables in house. Call Lexco at 800-626-6556 and ask for Denise Carrera. She can advise you. You will have to open a cash account there. You will have to decide on the best diameter of cable. Flexibility vs security, you know. A feature that I like is that an air pump is integrated into the workstand structure. An alternative is to have the tools drilled out and the cables passed through and crimped down. then one would have double looped cables with tools attached. Possible to buy a length of cable and crimps and make yore own too. Angelo On Monday, April 7, 2014 2:19 PM, breathingplanet . breathingplanet@gmail.com wrote:
