Hi Thinktank... is anyone out there doing any crates to Africa or elsewhere currently?
we have been asked to participate in such things before and the stars never aligned, but now we are in a situation of needing to downsize our storage substantially. Please contact me if there is anything going on, especially if its in the Northeast.... we could potentially contribute anywhere from 1-300 bikes, but we know little about how such projects operate.... we are all volunteer and dont have any budget to assist... just bikes.

if you don't have money but can produce plenty of volunteers to help you could keep the bikes in the USA and start a communtiy "yellow bike" program or donate them to an existing program in another area.

Check out africycle.org they're in Uxbridge, Ontario. They have a shop in Malawi and regularly send shipping containers overseas. They only send mountain bikes, though, and road/cruisers get put up for sale locally to fund the operation. They'd at least be a good starting point to see if there's an easy way to set that situation up. Clifford

Hopefully you can find something. We've been teamed up with the
Ottawa chapter of Bicycles for Humanity for a couple of years now, and
it has been fabulous in terms of shedding our shop of excess bikes,
parts, and especially knobby mtn. bike tires. BfH does list locations
in the US, but none in the NE:

Just don't send all your stuff across the border to our chapter. ;)
BfH got overwhelmed with responses this year, and since they only take
mtn. bikes we're about to pick up the 50 or so road and other bikes
they can't use...
