We have historically ordered helmets in bulk for bikeathons, bike camp, etc from Helmets R Us, but we’re looking to drive the price even lower this year, as we’re sharing our budget with other outlets. Does anyone know of a helmet donor, or another outlet that provide? Our quantity is roughly 200, so we get dinged pretty largely on shipping costs as well.

We get helmets from ProRider http://prorider.com. They aren't the hottest helmet, but they get the job done. Just ordered some of their new skate style helmets, as we think our recipients will be more likely to use them.

I just made an order and was planning on using the 4.95 deal through ProRider, but you need to buy 200 minimum... we only had $500 to spend on this, so I went with Helmets are us... the price was similar, but i was able to order 100. we did part bike helmets and part bike/skate (in hopes they might be more popular). This brings to light the idea of organizing collective bulk buying to get better prices. If we all need helmets, or at least we all buy them then we should be able to buy them together for cheaper than individually buying them.
Only issue I see is shipping. Would the company ship to multiple locations? Or would all the helmets go to one place, and then it is on that bike collective to then re-distribute.
I can see that there are issues. But I think we're pretty smart and we could figure them out. Maybe an issue to discuss at bike bike!

At MoBo http://www.mobobicyclecoop.org in Cincinnati we had a deal with the local Shiners where they'd give us a donation of helmets, and we'd donate $5 per helmet back to them each summer. They were ONLY kids' helmets, though.

To add on to Jess's thread, we no longer partner with Shriners because of changes there, but we do work with Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Cincinnati Rotary to give us helmets for Kids Day. The Rotary donates them to Childrens and we get half without us having to give up any funding. But, again, only kids helmets. Childrens came to us with this idea so maybe approach an organization similiar to that?
