Having a semi-regular series of events helps keep people motivated, a sort of check in to give frequent encouragement and stay riding in the face of certain frozen death. The Bike Fed of Wisconsin puts on a "sew to be seen" workshop at the onset of each winter in which reflective material is supplied and participants sew them on their winter cycling gear.
