Structuring beginner mechanics classes
Greetings folks!
I am currently teaching a 10-person beginners mechanic class. I am torn with how the sequence of information should progress. We have 4, 90-minute sessions total, spaced over the course of 1 month.
I tried teaching it before using my mechanics books as guides- but the progression didn't make sense to the students and I seemed to lose them. We did frames-brakes system-wheel etc...
I could use some collective wisdom- Thanks for the input!

Greetings Sarah, I am by no means a mechanic however I have a few builds under my hat. I suggest a project/projects per session. For example, installing a bottom bracket and or disc brake caliper installation. you can lead with your install and the students follow along or you can assisting each student one by one or group by group after they have viewed you installation and guidance. dxd

You could ask them what issues they face while cycling and cover those. Fit, not getting flats, proper brake and drivetrain function are popular topics. Check out Build A Bike on our site for what we cover each week.
