does anyone out there purchase wholesale helmets? we are looking into some funding opportunities (basically trying to get local corporations that give small grants) specifically for buying helmets for low-income kids who work in our 'youth shop'. thinking that bike/skate helmets might be slightly more popular. any suggestions for manufacturers/distributors, etc?? thanks! Bicycle Longmont does. I can email you the name when I'm back at my computer. We get a pretty good deal but the helmets are utilitarian, not trendy. But if yer talking kids, then, yer talkin' stickers. Stickers make everything cooler. On Feb 13, 2012 8:25 PM, "Andrew L" breathingplanet@gmail.com wrote:

We bought a ton of these helmets for an OTS grant and gave them away. they are about $8 shipped and work. they arent the best but they work. note, they run pretty small, so if you are giving them to adults get larges.

We recently made a connection with the hospital who now gives us as many kids helmets as we need. 300 or so over the past year.

Similar in Missoula: We asked and a hospital accepted: They bought 480 helmets (minimum order I think for helmets with logos), with their logo on one side, ours on the other, donated to us, and we gave them away. This year we asked and received $500 cash for youth program.
We are also working at a fever pitch to make our roads and motorists 'safe.'
I've been looking for a non-plastic, non-fossil fuel helmet, with no luck yet except for old gladiator armor.

We also receive money from our local hospital for helmets. For about three straight years now we've been able to purchase hundreds of helmets through small grants from them.

We at Community Cycles in Boulder were fortunate enough to team up with our local hospital. They had purchased many children's helmets to increase bike safety and awareness and were having challenges getting them distributed. At our recent holiday kids bike giveaway, we gave out almost 300 bicycles and the hospital had a table and staff who offered helmets to every attendee and helped with fitting as well.
The hospital has also given us helmets to give away to every youngster who earns or buys a bike.
