hey all, i'm looking to get in touch with the person who wrote/published the "no boys allowed" zine which was passed out at bikebike in san francisco. it was part of one of the oppression and gender identity issues workshops. we're looking to start a women's night here at community cycles, and i'd like to scan my copy as a pdf and email it to potential volunteers, as well as make some copies to have in the shop... if you're on the list, or if you know the person who wrote it (her name escapes me), please get in touch with me off list... thanks! josh. community cycles boulder

Wait list managment

Hello everyone, Im curious to find out how people are managing wait lists for programs. More specifically, are you picking students for your programs or is it first come first served on a sign up list. If you are picking students, what criteria are you using? We are starting to get more attention than we want to handle at this point. So we have programing slots for 350 students but we have 5-600 students sign up for the wait list. Up until this point we have always done first come first served. But we are trying to avoid telling a kid : Thanks for signing up, we will see you in 8 months when we have an opening. Thanks Patrick

Safety Workshops

Hello all! We're gearing up for our first Spring open, and are looking at our possibilities for running cycling safety workshops as a part of our spring/summer programming. So far, CANBIKE seems like one of the more prevalent options for broadly available bike-safety curricula, but we're curious about other options, and folks' experiences with different sorts of safety programs and workshops (as well as info about potential issues/insurance/liability, etc.). Any thoughts or experiences that might be helpful? We're a new co-op and this is our first season running these workshops. America Recycled Film!

Hi Everybody, It's been awhile, but we are excited to announce that we are back together in New Orleans and production of the feature-length America Recycled film has officially begun! We have just released a trailer with lots of new footage alongside our fundraising campaign. Thank you for supporting us over the last two years as we've tried to share this dream. We remain committed to keeping America Recycled an independent project, and thanks to so much grassroots support, we're well on our way to releasing this film. They use a similar model to Kickstarter, but it's a non-profit organization dedicated to the arts, so all donations are tax-deductible. They also do an amazing job supporting artists working in all disciplines, finding creative partnerships and funding practices for projects that might not otherwise come to fruition. For example, America Recycled has received the USA Creative Vision Award! They selected us out of all artists who launched a fundraiser in January across all disciplines, and are contributing a $5,000 match fund. This means that every single donation is matched 100%, cutting down what we need to raise by almost half. It also means that donors get an award for double what they give. Asking for money is not our favorite part of this work-we'd rather just be telling stories. But this is a necessary part of the process at this point, and we need all the help we can get. There are plenty of ways to help out here, even if you aren't able to donate anything yourself. You can spread the word about the film and the campaign within your community. You can write about it around your social networking sites and make posts on relevant websites and blogs. You can email us about hosting a screening of our short films to raise some money or organize your own event locally to bring attention to the project. Even small emails and facebook/blog comments help out. This project has moved way beyond the point where it's just about the bicycle trip of two brothers. This story is about all of us who want to experiment with different ways of living in this country and believe in the power of community in making these dreams a reality. All the quotes I've gotten thus far seem unreasonably high for our lil operation. We don't do any organized riding on the street with youth, nor do we have any employees so I'd assumed it would be affordable. Is there such a thing as an altruistic insurance provider? insurance for community bike program- workshops, rides, etc.

hello everyone, i am dave baker from the bike works in silver city, new mexico. i am a new addition to this list so i figured i would send out this query and see what ideas everyone has. i am looking for an insurance provider that offers a policy tuned for the type of work we do. we previously had insurance for a retail bike shop but it doesn't apply since retail shop customers generally don't enter the shop space and don't usually use the tools. we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that runs weekly free workshops that are open to the public. we also take kids on a weekly bike ride. in april, we are having a fundraising event in a local city park and the city is requiring that we get liability coverage for the day, which costs around $300. A year long policy would cover special events such as this and make much more sense. i am looking for feedback from other organizations that have dealt with this same issue. thanks, dave
